MP3 Players
MP3 players have revolutionised the way we buy and listen to music due to its impressive storage capabilities. MP3 players compresses music digitally and because these files are so small you can store thousands of songs on one player. This means you can have access to your entire music collection wherever you are.
There are two types of MP3 player- flash memory players that are like USB sticks and plug directly into your PC or hard disk drive players. Flash memory players are light and compact but have limited storage. Alternatively you can buy players with an internal hard disk. These have larger memories and can therefore hold thousands of songs (the Apple iPod is the best known of these).
The beauty of an MP3 player is that you can create your own mix of music by either buying music from the web onto your PC or by converting your CD collection into MP3 format. You then just download all the music from your PC to your MP3.
PC World has a range of MP3 players from the following brands: Creative, Matsui, Logik, Philips, Samsung.
MP4 Players
MP4 players are the next generation of MP3 players and not only store music but videos and photos as well. TV shows and movies can be recorded directly from a TV, DVD or cable/satellite receiver to view on the MP4 players screen wherever you are. A typical MP4 player can record up to 400 hours of TV (depending on the model and its memory size).

The cheapest MP3 player has less memory space so can store fewer songs, and has a basic LCD display.
Apple iPods use iTunes, a free program provided with Apple iPods that you install on your computer (PC or Apple Mac) it helps you manage your music. Many non-iPod MP3 players plug directly into your PC's USB port and appear as another 'drive'. You can then just drag and drop any MP3 files you want on to it.
